About me, and why I made this workshop
Hey! 👋🏿 My name is Candide, and I’m a digital media producer who is passionate about independent and accessible digital media production. My dream is to lower the barrier to entry for media production and design, especially for those who cannot access or afford formal education.
My passion for video production began when I was quite young. I always loved watching TV, editing videos, and designing content, but was limited to the free software that came bundled with my computer. Back then, this meant using Windows Movie Maker and Paint. 😬
Since then, a wide range of free & open-source software (FOSS) have entered the market, and their capabilities are always improving. Unfortunately, many of the tutorials, templates, support, and resources available online for media production are for expensive proprietary programs and suites.
As a freelancer and "prosumer," I’ve been using free & open-source software to complete video and design projects for several years and want to share my tips with the wider public. My goal is to empower people who don't often see themselves in the media to tell their own stories using free and/or open-source software.
The Course Kit + Access Pack is available on a sliding scale so that it's accessible to everyone. That said, this means that I rely on donations to keep the project alive. If you have the means to pay for the kit, whether it's $1 or even $1,000, it would mean a lot!
This course was only made possible thanks to a grant by OPIRG-Carleton. With your support, I can develop more content like this! 😊
